Intro to Wax Jewellery & Metal Finishing

Two sessions packed full of jewellery making skills and insights!

We will introduce you to the tools, materials and essential techniques of wax jewellery making and metal finishing where you will choose from several designs including textured, etched symbols and abstract shapes.

(does not include metal casting costs)

Skills covered

• An overview of the wax jewellery process
• You will create 2+ wax designs, each one covering a different essential skill
• Wax ring resizing
• Wax texturing techniques
• Instructions on how to get your designs cast
• An overview of ways to finish your metal castings
• Learn how to use tools required to remove the casting sprues
• Learn correct filing and sanding techniques
• Learn various polishing techniques to make your jewellery shine!
• Methods you can use at home with a minimal tool set

What next?

• You can continue with ongoing sessions as and when required to work on skills related to your area of interest. These are at a rate of $36/hr
• You can enroll in the Intensive Wax Jewellery Course covering a wide range of skills tailored to your interest, beginner to advanced including mould making, wax carving, sculpture and various experimental techniques.
• You can enroll in our mould making course and discover the full potential of wax jewellery making by learning how to mass produce your designs, copy, modify & incorporate found objects and existing jewellery pieces into your own designs.

Duration: 5 hours total (3hr wax techniques and 2hr metal finishing)

Price: $180 (group session)

Availability: Group sessions Tuesday, Fridays and Saturdays between 9am & 330pm
(class sizes are kept very small so sessions must be booked in advance. Sessions are available most weeks)
