Casseri Skull

$590.00

Historically anatomical depiction was much more of an artistic endeavor to represent a visceral essence of form rather than a straight duplication of what is observed. This places a responsibility on the artist to discover features, forms and anatomical relationships which maybe be hidden, subtle or almost imperceptible and express them artistically and creatively.

One of my favorite examples of this is the otherworldly graphical depiction of a skull by Giulio Casseri. I always loved the elaborate flow of the cranial suture and the shape of the orbit. The skull looks ancient and is alive with expression.

I hand sculpted this skull with the same dedication to detail and while being playful with form. It is always a challenge to sculpt from a two-dimensional reference image as so much information is missing or just hinted at. I had a lot of fun resolving the forms from all angles to create a balanced composition of my favorite skull representation by Giulio Casseri.

Description

Since I was very young, mythology has always created deep impressions in my imagination and every project is an endeavor to clarify the essence of these feelings and visions.  As I shape each sculpture, I treat every detail with obsessive care. I am bringing to life an other-worldly entity and crafting something that tells a story, holds meaning, and with the hope that it becomes a treasured possession for the owner. My hands are guided by years of experience and a deep passion for discovery through the creative process and where it might take me.
