SILV03 – Introduction to silversmithing 2. Melting and rolling silver into a sheet ring

Melting and rolling silver into a sheet ring after an introduction on how use an ingot die and a Smith Mini Oxy/Acetylene Melt and cast 14 grams of sterling silver into an ingot

• Roll the ingot into sheet suitable for the ring.
• Clean up the sheet to the desired width
• Use a ring mandrel dimension the rolled sheet to fit the finger size
• Prepare the metal ready for silver soldering and solder
• The ring band will be cleaned up ready for either final polishing or texturing
• The purity of the silver will be marked by stamping.
• Finally the final high finish will be applied

Duration 5 hours

This is a 5 hour course which is ideal to introduce you to silversmithing techniques.

Participants will be provided with up to 14 of sterling silver. The band can be finished by either polishing to a smooth shine or textured by planishing

Participants will be provided with all the materials necessary to finish the substantial silver ring band.
