Flush Setting, 3 hour course

It is a practical 3 hour course where participants will be introduced to setting a 3mm brilliant cut stone. With a little practice, this essential technique allows very quick, perfect stone setting for your jewellery designs.

Participants will be issued with 4 brilliant cut 3mm diameter CZ stones and an annealed copper strip. The principles of flush setting using a burnisher  can be practiced until the process becomes second nature.

A binocular microscope will  used to see how the counter intuitive process works.

All tools, qualified tuition and consumables are provided in a fully equipped air conditioned workshop.

The course is conducted in an unhurried supportive happy and friendly environment.

The Process

The process involves a small ridge being produced within the seating of the stone. This is done by using a fine steel burnisher. The effect of this ridge is to secure the stone in place. The burnishing process is counter intuitive but once the process is explored with the aid of a binocular microscope, the principle can be quickly learned.

Each participant will set 4 x 3mm CZ stones in a copper strip in this 3 hour session, using a 1mm drill bit a bud bur, and 2 cone burs. These are supplied to each attendee to use and take home after the course. The participant will also be given a comprehensive e booklet covering all aspects of the flush setting session
