The Jeweller’s Friend ‘Traditional Silver and Gold Cleaning Medium’ is part of the JCR Jewellery Cleaning system. This mild finishing medium was traditionally used by silversmiths, goldsmith and jewellers to remove fingerprints, light tarnish, and water stains from their work before presenting it to their customers.

In addition to its use in those traditional environments, this gentle powder was also employed in stately homes by Butlers and staff under their supervision. It effectively removes water stains and handling marks, leaving a brilliant, clean surface on silver and gold.

As a gentle abrasive, The Jeweller’s Friend Finishing Medium is softer than Gold, Silver Bronze or Brass, ensuring it won’t scratch either metal. Its unique property allows it to easily remove light discolouration caused by tarnish and handling, resulting in a sparkling, ultra-bright finish.

The Jeweller’s Friend Traditional Finishing Medium can be used to remove slight discolouration and fingerprints from gold and silver jewellery, silver cutlery, and dining settings. Its ease of use makes it an excellent solution for brightening dull surfaces with minimal effort.

When cleaning heavily tarnished pieces, The Jeweller’s Friend Finishing Medium can be used in conjunction with the Ion-Steam Commercial Cleaner to effectively remove heavy tarnish. This ionic reduction process loosens the tarnish, allowing it to be easily removed using The Jeweller’s Friend medium on a brush or soft cloth.

Instructions for Use

The Jeweller’s Friend Traditional Silver and Gold finishing medium is a natural, finely ground powder that can be used sparingly with a soft cloth or brush. Alternatively, it can be applied as a paste by mixing with a few drops of alcohol.

To use, gently rub the metal surface with a soft cloth to reveal a brilliant, super-clean finish. If the gold or silver surface is particularly dull, start by using the JCR Commercial Cleaner followed by The Jeweller’s Friend Finishing Medium on a soft cloth, as described above. The surface is burnished to a finish with a clean soft cloth.
